Vonore, Tennessee - Rich in Cherokee History

Vonore, Tennessee, nestled within the Little Tennessee River Valley has a history rich in historical and archaeological value. For many years the Cherokee Indian Nation considered this area as their principal homeland. Tanasi is a historic Overhill Cherokee village site, best known as the namesake for the state of Tennessee. Tanasi served as the capital of the Cherokee Nation during the 1700s until the capital moved to Great Tellico. Another village located in the Vonore area was named Chota, just north of Tanasi. The towns were excavated in the 1960's when it was determined that they were archaeologically indistinguishable, and today share a single listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The Tennessee Valley Authority placed a monument on the shoreline of Tellico Lake that commemorates the history and legacy of these two towns, and the naming of the great state of Tennessee.

Nestled along Tellico Lake today is the gated community of The Ridges at Tellico Lake. They are offering large estate size home sites and fractional ownership of two gorgeous homes with spectacular panoramic views of the Great Smoky Mountains, from just $149,000. Each home is beautifully appointed and affords the utmost in home luxury. For more information please visit www.theridgesattellicolake.com or call 1-877-Tenn-A-See (836-6273)
