Today many communities built along the shores of Tellico Lake offer the amenities the lake provides as incentive to new residents. One of these is a gated community, The Ridges at Tellico Lake. If someone is interested in the fractional ownership of a gorgeous mountain home this is the perfect place. With beautiful panoramic views of the Great Smoky Mountains, these homes are exquisitely furnished and ready for occupancy. Priced from just $149,000 a share in these homes is a smart buy in today's market. Estate size home sites are also available. Tellico Lake - East Tennesee, 30 Miles South of Knoxville
The Tennessee Valley Authority began construction on Tellico Dam in 1967. Finally completed in 1979, Tellico Lake was formed out the the Little Tennessee River, which today covers 357 miles of shoreline and 15,560 acres of water surface for recreational activities. Construction of the dam was not without controversy. The controversy was focused on the protection of a small endangered fish, the snail darter. The snail darter measures just 2.2 - 3.1 in length and feeds primarily on aquatic snails. This little fish halted construction while controversy escalated to the Supreme Court. Eventually a compromise was made by congress to complete the dam and remnant populations of the snail darter were successfully introduced to the Hiwasee River and other streams.
